One thing I learned moving from Nebraska to British Columbia and back is that Americans have a toxic commitment to suffering called "individualism." This belief that we should suffer always and we should ask for or receive help from no one. It's a cut your nose to spite your face mentality that is really astounding. Life in Canada was so damn easy by comparison and I wish more Americans, Nebraskans especially, understood how much better and easier their lives COULD AND SHOULD be.
@TinaThePerson a lot of Canadians suffer from the same individualism. It took me years to be able to accept help when offered, and it still hurts to ask for help when needed.
@TinaThePerson This focus on atomized individuality has become a surprise focus on my channel as I've delved into leftism. The idea of actually community is so foreign to me its actually a bit scary mostly because people in the communities I was raised in also didn't understand what community actually was. youtu.be/bK5cRaFWpAo
Many of Us are Too Traumatized by “Community” to Engage, Which is a Real Psychological Need

@TinaThePerson Even American internet anarchists think they get community but they are still neo-liberal without realizing it, because actual community has become a completely foreign concept. Interesting view of "suffering" as synonymous with individualism. Rousseau would probably completely agree. A thing I'm studying now as someone on the spectrum who also has only experienced broken "community". Someday I might be able to be part of that. youtu.be/bmW9XX5XELY
Thanks to Neoliberalism, Many Internet Anarchists Would be Terrible in an Anarchist Society

@TinaThePerson It's even more frustrating that so much of Canada is being tainted by that same set of "values" imported from the US. BC has a pretty committed progressive culture, but much of the rest of the country (especially Alberta) is suffering from increasing "individualism" that's threatening so much of what differentiates the two countries.
@TinaThePerson Wow. Got a glimpse of something just barely that sounds amazing.
