I'm getting the idea that political speech is just too upsetting for the people on this site. My whole purpose on social media is to engage with political speech.

Think of it this way. A content warning label serves two purposes. It protects people who don’t want their feed cluttered or upsetting and a service as a little preview of something exciting that might be hidden behind the curtain. Kind of like the quote tweet did

Also keep in mind that out of courtesy many will not boost any political tweet that doesn’t have a warning. So actually, respecting others will help get your message across and create the kind of community we want.

@jentaub @Stmorecowbell However, as soon as 10% or more of your feed is cloaked it becomes an irritant rather than anything like a feature. To survive it should be reserved for things other than politics (the precise thing, at certain points, that 95% of the people will be here to talk about)—like grisly tank-explosion videos. For those it can be genuinely useful.

@peterquince @Stmorecowbell @jentaub But you can check the box in your personal app’s settings that shows all content by default. Then nothing is cloaked and you can see everything, everywhere, all at once. 😀

@mosugerman @Stmorecowbell @jentaub That sounds like a box I would like to check! I’m on the web. Do I count as having a personal app with settings?

(And to muse upon, mildly: it very definitely the Best of All Possible Worlds that the default is not the other way around, or that it is not a setup choice instead of a default?)
