See what I've done on my Twitter profile? I share my Mastodon account name.

If you want your old Twitter connections to know who you are on Mastodon, you should do the same.

Tools like https://fedifinder.glitch.me connect Mastodon users to their Twitter pals' new accounts on Mastodon by using this info

@gcluley As an added bonus, every time mastodon gets typed on the bird site, a billionaire loses a hair.
@gcluley Some tools look in the profile name rather than the bio so you might want to put your account name there as well.

@gcluley And perhaps run the tool every few days right now - people are creating new Mastodon accounts quickly.

For example, the tool found a half-dozen more people for me just between last night and this morning.

@gcluley It's a good idea to repeat the process, esp with the current migration rate https://mastodon.social/@Gargron/109300967725833789
@gcluley I changed my entire profile name to my Mastodon username.

@[email protected] Hi Alex, I note that on your Twitter profile you list yourself as @[email protected], which is not "clickable". If you change it (as I have done in mine) to toot.community/@SturdyAlex, it will magically take people straight to your Mastodon account when they click on it, and they'll no longer have to copy and paste it into Mastodon. Worth passing on to other Twitter migrants.

@gcluley even better to put a complete https link in your Twitter profile, so people can just click it, and then follow (once they've got a Mastodon account).
@gcluley I changed my name on twitter to be my mastodon handle
@gcluley It's super worth trying out https://fedifinder.glitch.me/ a few times, since so many people are migrating here every day. Folks that scraped a few days ago should give it another shot today.

@gcluley if you format it as https://mastodon.green/@gcluley then it should make it a clickable link and still be findable, I think
@gcluley ...do you know if it works if you replace your profile URL with your Mastodon profile link, instead?

@gcluley Now if only I could get keybase proofs working here.

And before someone says "keyoxide", I don't get what should go in claims, profiles, and proofs and where those should each live.

I was teaching people how to use PGP before many here were born. I've used keybase extensively. If I can't figure out what to do from keyoxide docs, I doubt many others can.

@gcluley the problem with ‘geeks’ trying to explain stuff is they think it’s simple. It’s nonsense. I just joined. Took your advice & agreed the strong password. It didn’t save to my phone so now I cannot do anything. I am trying to delete the whole thing & (maybe) start again but without my password - which I will never ever know - I can’t even do that. Aaaaagh! This is like the late 80’s all over. I hate it

@patrickstevens63 Ok, so i looked at what Mastodon instance you're on - and here is the link where you can request a password reset:

https://c.im/auth/password/new

I recommend using a password manager to remember your passwords for you securely. Examples of passwor managers include Bitwarden (which, like Mastodon, is open-source), 1Password, and LastPass.

@gcluley put into my profile to, and discovered that I'm now an official Social Media Influencer 🥸
