I very strongly recommend that recent arrivals here, like me, stop right now and read this end-to-end:

https://www.hughrundle.net/home-invasion/

The title is: “Home invasion :
Mastodon's Eternal September begins”

Note that I am *not*, as I would on Twitter, including the handle of the author. Just learning but I think that is fedi-appropriate.

Home invasion - Mastodon's Eternal September begins

The fediverse is dealing with a huge wave of Twitter people bringing toxic ideas with them.

@timbray

Yes, I remember how, on LJ before it was sold the 1st time, we'd ask one another before sharing a link to their post anywhere.

We need intentionality for this all to work well.

@emma Yes. I think (but am new here, don’t put much weight on my thoughts) the fedi needs explicit share/noshare signaling.
@timbray Also a newcomer trying to grasp the norms, but I’m getting a sense that, like the old saw “if you have to ask you can’t afford it”, if you need an explicit signal you’re not having a “house party” kind of conversation to begin with. Not sure if I’m reading the cultural vibe right, though.
