Finally an answer to the question: How do you make a hellsite worse?

@scottjshapiro

Turn it into a bank and offer money market accounts

@FeedingTubePaul @scottjshapiro Because no one ever thought of banking as—as a business before! So Elon the Destroyer will clean up that whole sector. Oh My God
@peterquince @FeedingTubePaul @scottjshapiro he’s trying to mimick what WeChat does in China, where there is a mix of social media and financial services. It’s clearly a workable model if it’s introduced at the right time by a competent company, so it’s not a totally insane idea in the abstract. Given that he’s currently driving twitter into the ground though…
@ashton_k @FeedingTubePaul @scottjshapiro It seems insane of him to think that he can will an American WeChat, which seems to be sort of what ‘Yahoo!’ aspired to be before it faced, ah, meaningful competition, into existence. Way too late, with Uber, and countless consumer banks, and DoorDash, and Amazon, and Facebook, and … it just seems completely silly. I think because it is.

@peterquince @FeedingTubePaul @scottjshapiro yeah, I agree. The idea has legs in the right context, but timing matters.

Twitter never had the market penetration either. If anyone could’ve pulled it off it would’ve been facebook maybe 15 years ago. But as you say, it’s too late now.

@scottjshapiro I like to think, in my case at least, by leaving.
@scottjshapiro Hellsite hath no limits, nor is circumscribed
In one self place, for where we are is hellsite,
And where hellsite is must we ever be.

Faust: What dost thou out of hellsite?
Mephistopheles: Why *this* is hellsite, nor am I out of it.

@scottjshapiro might be doing better than FTX lately, tho
