… and I managed to move my account to a different instance πŸ˜…

So I'm assuming that when the Mastodon instance I'm on is approximating the Fail Whale, that's a good sign, right…? In any case, it definitely takes me back.

@turoczy Ooh! a local instance!
@blogan Indeed! I kept clicking "Local" anyway so… Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―
@turoczy I'm currently on a huge site and was looking to move. This is the push I needed. πŸ™‚

@turoczy I just got the invite link -- now I get to figure out the move. That sounds like a tonight activity.

@blogan Let me know if I can help! It's a few steps, but it's pretty seamless.

Note: I have not yet explored exporting my content on the old account but I have moved the people i follow over.

@turoczy I think I bookmarked the multistep process and I can follow directions. I'll give a shout if I need help. Thanks!
@turoczy Was it super complicated or fairly easy move to another instance?
@edox It was super easy. And I'm a total n00b. It's built into the basic account settings. Almost like you should be able to move your data where you want or something πŸ˜‚
@turoczy excellent. I'll have to take a look at those settings at some point. I like the instance I am on simply because it is so short. 😁
@edox For sure. That makes total sense. I'm just "buying local" as it were πŸ˜‚
@turoczy That makes total sense. I didn't really realize there were so many instances, I guess, and ones that were in PDX. I may have to look at moving to one that is in PDX at some point.
@turoczy is moving to a local instance ever a potential problem? I’ve got an account over on a bigger one and figured it would be less resource intensive/more stability to have one there. Can you keep the other account as an alias or something?

@gogobonobo Yes. I still have the other account at @turoczy. It's just "archived" with a redirect to the current account at @turoczy.

There's a way to move all of your followers to the new account. (I haven't mucked around with export/import yet. So my content is mostly still on the old account.)

Suffice it to say, they've done a good job with the flow and it's super easy. If I want to move back, I just remove the redirect.

@turoczy I did it! Easy peasy and good to know that I can go back if required.
