Anyway

This sounds like snark but it's not

If you're on mastodon dot social or dot online

Leave that instance and get on a better one

They are de facto unmoderated instances due to their sheer size and many many instances have them limited

So for example, if someone from m dot s replies to this, I won't see it

Ever!

@researchfairy not this? Why would moderation policy affect federation?
@thomkennon @researchfairy
Because instances with users known violating all kinds of CoCs of other instances will get blocked by them.
As an extreme, if there were nazi groups on your server, or support for kiwifarms and your instance does not keep it in check, it will get blocked by others.
Please read up on kiwifarms.
@mwfc @researchfairy ✊ thx will do. I'm an idiot newbie, all guidance humbly pursued.

@thomkennon @researchfairy
No problem.

But if your instance hosts all kinds of groups that others have to block it shows that your instance is maybe running with different values.
So from the outside, either your moderation is not working, or you find it perfectly acceptable behaviour.

Both can spill over via federated timelines and boosts. So you have to ultimately kick the server out of federation for you.

I was looking for another post by someone else, who mentioned the SAME issue.

@thomkennon @researchfairy
Btw why I brought up kiwifarms is because they are so far out of anything you would consider acceptable.

I found the post the other toot referred to:

@researchfairy @thomkennon
Some instances block unmoderated instances.

@clacksee @thomkennon Here's an example

I saw the reply from wandering.shop (good, moderated instance) but not the initial comment from m dot s (de facto unmoderated [redacted] instance)

@clacksee @researchfairy I'm a sponge for your insights, thx. ✊
