✨ Hello Fediverse!

If you haven't heard of Pixelfed before, it is the fediverse equivalent to Instagram.

Imagine being able to follow your friends on Twitter from your IG account, on the fediverse you can!

@pixelfed There's an Android app?
@karlggestd Yes. It is called 'Pixeldroid'. Not 100 % perfect yet, but on a good way. @pixelfed
@pixelfed I'm newish to the fediverse and now have accounts on both mastodon and pixelfed. I'm slightly confused about where best to post photos going forwards. Would it make sense to post photos on pixelfed and boost from my mastodon account? Rather than posting on both accounts?
@andyburke @pixelfed I also have two accounts and have boosted the odd photo from pixelfed here. It would be good to know what is the preferred etiquette.
@andyburke @pixelfed I might not be qualified to „judge“, but that’s exactly how I set it up: Post photos on pixelfed and boost them from my Mastodon account. At least for starters. If users on Mastodon like my photos, they’ll follow my pixelfed account eventually. If not, they won’t, and that’s totally ok, and reason why it’s two accounts.

@andyburke

I personally usually post something only with one account and boost it with the other. If the picture is the main element, I'd post on Pixelfed, else on Mastodon. It would probably depend on my gut feeling.
But I have not yet much experience with managing and using Pixelfed, I am mainly active on Mastodon.

@pixelfed

@pixelfed is it for photos only? Or is it going to also accept other forms of art (eg digital paintings)?
@Tenguzame @pixelfed I guess this depends on the server and its policies. I can't see specific guidance at pixelfed (says photoes and videos generally) but also someone may have set up something specific for digital artworks.
That would be nice if we could share @pixelfed stories on our @Mastodon profile via a direct integration with both platforms, like the twitter fleets was + instagram stories combined
@pixelfed Hey, Pixelfed. I have a question. How would you explain the virtues of using a dedicated Pixelfed account over just posting photos/vids on your mastodon timeline? I was asked this question and I didn't have a good answer....

@NorCalChar @pixelfed I'm curious about the answer / target design as well.

I think Pixelfed has an interface more like Instagram, aimed at picture sharing. You can't seem to follow Mastodon users posts, but Mastodon users can follow your posts and interact with them.

So I guess Mastodon would act as a "view all in a timeline" while over at Pixelfed you'd interact with other pixelfedders?

That's at least what I figured out after installing and running an instance for both.

@pixelfed Hi, love the idea of this, have opened an account and have started learning about boosting Pixelfed posts on Mastodon. But ideally I'd love to import my Insta archive. Seems to be an option, but whenever I try it keeps failing. Is it still in beta, or are servers overwhelmed, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks!
