@mmasnick @shawrd773 Have either of you seen a better way to "QT" a post on here? Just "boost" seems to be available. You've both been sending out tips so I thought I'd check. Tried to do it manually, but it just presents as a link then.

@Eventsforgood @shawrd773 this is a MAJOR point of contention. Mastodon's developer believes that QT is a tool for harassment so will not implement it. Many people support that.

There are others (I'm here) who think it can be used well. Some instances have implemented it, but only a few.

In the meantime, people recommend replying and then boosting the reply. Or linking to the post. Or screenshotting...

@mmasnick @shawrd773 Thanks for the quick response. I've always thought QT or what used to be the manual RT on Twitter is important because it helps you add context for why that particular post applies to your audience. I often do it on posts where 2 topics wouldn't seem connected but are. Or, just this morning, boosting someone's post yesterday needed the important context that Election Day is today.

@Eventsforgood @shawrd773 yes, that's my take as well. but others feel STRONGLY (I've been yelled at a few times for advocating for QT) that because it's "been decided" that QT is for harassment, that even reopening that question is a sign of privilege and bad intentions. Just noting, some people are.. intense about it.

@Eventsforgood @mmasnick @shawrd773 The lack of a QT feature is a years old design decision to discourage talking /about/ a post and to encourage you to engage in a conversation. It helps to cut down on the "hey look at this stupid post" type behavior that is common in Twitter.
