Ok, #Mastodon. Here's more #weirdhistory coming your way.

This is a #medieval skull fused with (chain)mail. The soldier died at the Battle of Visby in 1361 on the island of Gotland, Sweden. The dead were buried in mass graves and discovered in the early 20th century. According to historian John Keegan, "...hot weather and their great number (approximately 2,000 bodies) defeated the efforts of the victors to strip them before decomposition began."

@DrLindseyFitzharris Wow! This is my first post on Mastodon, I fled from Twitter, and what a great start! I’m a former archaeology student and all I can say about this post and that object is: What a find!
@DavehebDaf welcome to Mastodon! It's a great space (I'm always migrating from Twitter!)
