I did some more work on this track last night: settling on instrumentation, guitar tones and testing out some mixing ideas.

Next on the list is tracking live drums to replace the midi and redoing the guitar parts!

@Sakti @H4ND when it soars it soars beautifully. Creates some great spaces. I think the arp is a little too 8 bit, and I was uncomfortable with the hi hats at the start, I felt they weren't in the groove, where as the rides and crashes were spot on. That the bonus of having the live drums though. How are you recording them?

@JonCH @Sakti really appreciate the feedback! Funnily enough the 8bit arp was originally a tapping riff on guitar but it was getting a bit too guitar-centric so went with synth instead. The overarching theme for the EP is a bit sci-fi so I was hoping to inject that vibe too.

Interesting point RE the hats; drum arrangement is definitely my weakest area so I'll be leaning on my drummer mates to improve that!

Plan for drum recording is acoustic kit plus midi triggers, overhead and room mics

@H4ND @Sakti I can't fault the tone of the guitar, how did you do that? Feels like there's a RAT in there somewhere. I love that sound.

Perhaps experiment with the tapping, with some 50s vibrato on it.

Great stuff. Far better than I achieve.

@JonCH I use STL ToneHub for the guitar tone. It's actually 3 tones blended together: a bogner uberschall for the fuzz, and then a Marshall jcm(can't remember which) and Laney Lionheart for lower gain clarity
