big news in Italian archaeology today is the discovery during controlled excavation (ongoing for a couple of years) of 20+ bronze sculptures in an Etruscan-Roman votive pit in Tuscany. Ancient bronze is underrepresented archaeologically, because most of it was melted down for reuse; this stuff has been soaking in a thermal spring for 2000+ years, so not only does it survive, it's well preserved, and will offer a fuller picture of ancient votive/religious practice than is usually possible
