@kathygriffin Obviously no idea if you'll see this, but: yeah, I get the feeling some of the instances (the most popular ones, I assume) weren't really ready for this level of being suddenly inundated with users. In some despair I went with a server in Germany that had good sounding rules and was responding well, but... I think it's kind of a crapshoot until things settle down.

So here's the deal as I understand it regarding instances: You can sign up on however many instances you for some reason feel you need to. But presumably you don't want to log into all of those, and you'd like to just post from one of them! No problem. You can set the others to "redirect" to your main instance. For example, @[email protected] redirects to @rfrancis which means if you try to follow the former you wind up following the latter. Or so I believe! (1/2, as we say on you-know-where)
