You may make yourself a target of state and non-state actors. How good is your network security? What else do you use your intended server for? Will you use dedicated access to the internet? If not, what else will share that pipe? How is your local network configured? How ready are you to respond to requests from national and international law enforcement compelling you to produce data?

@PeteStrzok @adamdavidson assume that you will be or are compromised by a hostile foreign entity as you operate. Network and app security is a full time specialty.
Cc @danielschuman @tjl on good questions here that will also come up if/when an instance for Congress happens

I would imagine this goes the same direction as email servers: folks will gravitate towards large, trusted servers in the same way most of us trust Google/Alphabet with our Gmail accounts. Would folks move to a well-run Google instance, for example? I would speculate that they would, especially if the inevitable catastrophe emerges e.g. a big host goes down or falls victim to a state or non-state actor.

@PeteStrzok @adamdavidson Following closely as I run a small social media community that has just asked me this morning to host an instance.
