If you want to try out the advanced web interface for Mastodon, I made short video on how to pin a hashtag search.

1. In Preferences, Enable advanced web interface and save.
2. Go Back to your Mastodon start page.
3. Search for #FediTips
4. Click search result
5. In the column that appears, open column settings (top right icon)
6. Select โ€œPinโ€ and the column will stay in your layout and update automatically
7. You can add more hashtags to the same column, if you want.

@axbom I'm running the advanced interface but I'm not able to add additional hashtags to the column, any idea what the reason for that could be?
@Micke In this case I actually think that the hashtag must 'exist' on your instance before you can add it. Likely it's enough that somebody on the instance uses it.
@axbom hmm, would think that me following these to hashtags on the instance should be enough but that doesn't seem to be the case unfortunately..

@Micke it could be that the admin has to approve your hashtag first. Worth checking.

@Micke @axbom #commodore64 did not exist, atm on mastodon.se you can see if it does if you go to https://mastodon.se/web/tags/commodore64 but I did notice that #c64 does exist.
#commodore64

These are public posts tagged with #commodore64. You can interact with them if you have an account anywhere in the fediverse.

Mastodon hosted on mastodon.se
@stemid @axbom still don't get this to be honest, if I add different tags like commodore64, c64 or amiga at https://mastodon.se/tags I can see them all, but still can't add them as additional tags for my column.. what am I missing here?

@Micke wow you just activated federation of the #comodore64 tag on this instance. now I get a loong list of posts with it. fancy.

let me check in my advanced gui, I don't normally use it but each time I go back to it I still see my old tags that I pinned.
