Twitter seems, quite insidiously, to have turned even academics who, in their professional work, would be very careful to demonstrate critical thinking, into mere hot take criticizers.

Opening dialogue is a much more fruitful and genuinely "critical" road than merely expressing critical opinions. So, though I'm not expecting any miracles, why don't we try to leave the hot takes back where we came from and make an effort to engage in inquiry and opening dialogue.

@WorldImagining I fear that we will inherent all the problems of the bird site. I hope the valiant @Mastodon developers will learn from the mistakes of Twitter and not just make a free version.
@WorldImagining For me the problem was never the odd car or gadget ad appearing in my timeline! I too was shocked how my colleagues seemed to so readily drop nuance and objectivity. It seems “likes” are so addictive tweeps were egged on to shout more and more extreme sentiments to a more and more focussed echo chamber - and sadly, I see nothing here to help. Over and over I vote for a Reddit like vote system to replace “likes”
