I just set up a filter for "RT" and it instantly cleared my feeds of most of the cross-poster stuff.

I am quite uninterested in birdsite cross posts. They are almost universally broadcasty with no attempt at creating interaction or conversation.

That's very out of place on #mastadon and the larger #fediverse.

@mike I wasn't morally opposed to crossposting until I tried to interact with one by asking a question and, when I got no response, figured out that it was completely unmonitored and that I was basically interacting with the equivalent of a flyer I had found on the ground.
@Sandrockcstm Gosh, that is a great image for the feeling.
@Sandrockcstm @mike I am cross posting because I have a large account on Disability Twitter and many folks there are really worried about losing community -- the same with folks coming here. By being someone who posts -- and is active -- in both spheres, I hope I can remain engaged with the community I built and love and ensure no one feels left behind or on their own.
@Sandrockcstm @mike But I did not turn on my retweets from Twitter here. Lol.
@mike @Sandrockcstm Lol. Honestly, I just wrote a thread where I wrote each tweet in it alternating platforms and that was kind of cool. I can see a future of decentralized headless content where each person has more control over their content and experience on their platform of choice. And their followers remain across platforms and can engage with them.
@ahreaume @Sandrockcstm The fediverse could to this really well, in theory. In practice, it's still pretty techy.

@mike @Sandrockcstm It's still pretty cool imagining future possibilities with that -- ones for the non-techy at least! Lol.

(I work in tech but I'm a writer/marketer -- not a programmer)

@ahreaume @Sandrockcstm Twitter and Mastodon, including the corresponding disability communities, have different norms and behaviors. Things tend to be conversational here, which is not always true on the Twitter.

Do as you'd like! I just tend to unfollow people who try to turn the fediverse into Twitter.

@Sandrockcstm @mike I crossposted for a while but made sure to respond to replies. Kinda feel like there’s no point otherwise.
@mike I'm muting writers who cross post with large RTs with lots of images and glaring emojis - "News" posts coming across like an emergency vehicle siren may have grabbed attention on the birdsite but it's not the experience I want here.
@mike brilliant idea, I'm going to do this asap.

@mike excellent tip, I will add it to my filter!

I currently have a filter for "twitter", which manages to catch the tedious meta-commentary AND any of the cross-posted RTs that include a twitter URL (which is a lot of them)

@mike please teach us how to do this! I’m not a fan of cross posting either. Said as much a moment ago! If I’m going to be here, I’m going to be here! And want posts from others who are too
@mike sorry in advance for the question, but how do you set up a filter?
