There was a mass movement from twitter to mastodon back in 2017. It lasted about a week before most went back to twitter.
We'll see if it sticks this time.

@pokateo I don't do any other social media (occasionally some OSM Discord), so I had no idea what the GIS presence on Twitter or elsewhere was like.
It's been incredibly satisfying to see my feed here start to swell with nerdy map stuff!
