trying not to be discouraged/driven away by the shade I'm seeing from long term mastodon users at the newbies trying figure this place out, but my history is such that I've been made to feel unwelcome so many places it's hard for me not to just go "okay so Mastodon doesn't want me"

@acerbicotter it's totally understandable but yes, a little disheartening, especially as once we've got our heads around local norms many of us will be a nice addition. Counterpoint: I've seen loads of accounts posting patient, kind & helpful tips to support newcomers in getting up to speed.
