A tip someone passed along earlier that is worth repeating. Discoverability on mastodon is improved when you boost posts rather than just favoriting them. Unlike the   bird site, mastodon does not show in my feed the things you favorite. So boost the stuff you like! Tags also help discoverability! #twittermigration #tips
@jeremy_data Great tip - was just trying to figure out ways to find people on different servers
@jeremy_data Okay! How to boost?
@thanius the circular arrows at the bottom of a post! Same as a retweet on the bird site.
@jeremy_data Alright! Still learning terminology. Only been here for 3 years 🙃
@thanius @jeremy_data Icon looks much like this: 🔁
now... 🚀 !
@jeremy_data that’s super cool. I like this behaviour a lot. Thanks for the info.
@jeremy_data Good to know. It used to be that way on Twitter too. Then my feed started filling up with all the stuff that people liked. I myself stopped liking in order to avoid creating clutter. Some people had so many likes that I unfollowed them because they were cluttering my feed and preventing me to see other things.
@jeremy_data Also, boosting doesn't feel like retweeting: you don't necessarily fully endorse what you boost. You want it to be heard, that's it.
@jeremy_data For those of us new how to boost?
@susanfox clicking the recycle arrows at the bottom of a post will reshare it in your timeline. Like retweet on twitter. Here it’s called a boost. Some other details here https://docs.joinmastodon.org/user/network/#actions
Using the network features - Mastodon documentation

Follow and talk to anyone from any server.

@jeremy_data is "boost" the Mastodon equivalent of retweeting? Trying to get my terms right!
@ValouriousKnight That’s what I have seen, but I haven’t read official docs. Maybe I should!
@jeremy_data fab, thanks for the explanation. I shall bear it in mind
@jeremy_data I like the distinction between "like" and "boost". I was appalled when I discovered my likes were showing up in others' feeds.
@deborahh @jeremy_data Yeah, back to sanity. Boost should be the signal towards your followers and like - towards the person you follow.
@jeremy_data Q: what's the difference in effect between boosting and replying? Are they the same, but on a reply I add text?
Still figuring this out.
@jeremy_data I guess my question is: when I reply, should I *also* boost if I want to give it more visibility?
@deborahh Good question. I’m not 100% sure on that one. Try it out!
@jeremy_data thank you! We all need the help, lol.
@jeremy_data thanks! Passed this along.
