You know what’s great about #mastodon?

I’m greeted w a timeline of friendly folks excited to share cool things: ‘Here’s #music I composed!’ ‘Check out my #art!’ ‘I took this photo of the stars bc #space is magical!’

Even on topics I’m unfamiliar with, the enthusiasm makes me curious to learn more.

I love that this network isn’t set up to encourage snark & reward cruelty. It’s not a race for 🔁 & ❤️ bc they’re not as obvious as on #twitter

It has a real community feel. 2022 needs more of that.

@Sheril I like horses so I will talk lots about them. So far I haven’t found a whole lot of other people with similar enthusiasm, I’m hoping they will show up over time.

I suspect the bad take guys find it’s not (yet) worth their while showing up to make people’s lives miserable on Mastodon. If or when they do, that’s when Mastodon’s intended controls will be put to the test.

@estebanmonte Cool thanks! Does your wife have a horse, or ride one? I've owned a few over the years. Now it's my daughter Caitrín's turn. Here she is with Gem after winning a show jumping competition last weekend.

@malmorrow oh wow! Amazing! He had a horse in our home country Costa Rica, but the horse was killed by a snake. Costa Rica is full of snakes in some areas. We might get another one if we come back to Costa Rica.

@estebanmonte Wow, I'm sorry. Yes we are in South Africa, we know snakes. When I lived on a farm previously, and kept horses, there were quite a lot of cobras. But they are really shy snakes and we never had an accident.

It's the countryside! It's their home! Nothing you can really do except be careful.
