@LexiA Honestly I just think of it as an office. You might spend a lot of time inside of the office with your colleagues, but you can always go out for drinks after and seeing other people who you don't work with.
Doug Massey@LexiA my personal opinion, FWIW, is different cities with different by-laws all connected by bike paths or highways (sorry had to get a bike reference in there) - so choose the city with the by-laws you want to live under, because that’s what is most important
Jonathan@LexiA I said earlier today that I think even wondering about "servers" is, generally, pointless for nearly everyone. The integration of the Mastodon servers is seamless enough that it doesn't need to be considered. Just find people to follow, just like you did on the birdbox, and you're good. Follow the Local timeline, check out hashtags and dip your toes in the Federated timeline.

LeeCookson@LexiA I like there are different ways to look at it. Basic = mstdn.social, mastodon.social, mstdn.cloud, etc are like the university quad or town park where people go just to be there. Focussed groups moderated got scientists, journalists, lawyers, etc come with some legitimacy (a la blue tick) since the admins there vet been members and maintain consistency. In between are regional, fun, arbitrary groups, and all options are equally valid.
