I hope Mastodon is ok with artists trying to make a living from the beautiful work they enhance your feed with on this platform. So many of us relied almost entirely on Twitter to survive bc it was the only platform that yielded us an engaged, friendly audience. There is no other place for us, not really.
I will be promoting my online store and Patreon as non-obnoxiously as possible, feel free to mute or block me if you’re unable to tolerate that!
A lot of us are very stressed and scared about how we’re going to adapt/survive this big disruption. Your support means the world 💖
@pepperraccoon For me it's the opposite - I tried to find great art and prints for our lounge room and every time I found an artist whose style fits my vision, I found they'd become NFT only sellers and it was really disheartening. I love that there's a community of artists that value their work.
@mintie yeah, I’m so happy to be out of the NFT nightmaresphere!!!! There’s definitely pros and cons!
@pepperraccoon Promote them as obnoxiously as you need to.
@Curator bless, y’all are the best. Very grateful to be in a place that shares my feels about NFTs and being careful re: ethics with AI art. 💖💖💖💖
@pepperraccoon I can't find the thread now so I'll try to summarise this: I had 20k insta followers (now 15k), a 5k FB group, and 3k Twitter followers. FB sales were reasonable, never sold a thing through Twitter or Insta. When I first came here and had a few 100 followers on my personal account I would sell stuff on the regular. I've made far more money here than on all three other platforms combined.

@pepperraccoon I post things for sale and they get bought very quickly. I post things I do for shits and giggles without posting that it's for sale and someone will ask if they can buy it. People here - not just on .art but across the fediverse - are *eager* to buy art from indie artists.

So please, post your shop links and products for sale regulary. <3

@pepperraccoon there are instances that let you do stuff like this. I have a work account for the instance handmade.social and im allowed to post links to my felt store there.
@craftygardennz yeah, it seems like the Art instance I’m in is fairly flexible as long as you keep it reasonable. My problem is that marketing to other people who do the same thing I do isn’t actually what I need or want.
@pepperraccoon that’s where hashtags come into play as they are the only things searchable and aren’t instance specific.
@craftygardennz yeah, but honestly who regularly searches hashtags? 😂
@pepperraccoon @craftygardennz real talk I do think Mastodon is not a great platform for professional creatives to promote their work - can’t pay for an ad, reduced virality etc. … that said the Mastodon of today is different from two weeks ago so 🤷‍♂️
@dznz @craftygardennz I wouldn’t pay to promote and never went viral on Twitter, yet I still did brilliantly. It’s not really about that for us.
@pepperraccoon I do now, it's the only way to find people with interests like mine.
@pepperraccoon @craftygardennz
If it helps, you can follow and in some clints pin hashtags to a column, so that you can set up a stream for a topic you're interested in.

A bit more on the multi-column mode for desktop viewing over here:

Attached: 2 images The desktop version of Mastodon has two different interfaces: a single column Twitter-style one, and a multicolumn Tweetdeck-style one. ✅ To switch between Mastodon's desktop interfaces, go to Preferences > Appearance > Enable Advanced Web Interface. Selecting it activates multicolumn, unselecting it activates single column. Multicolumn lets you add lots of additional columns, which may be handy for desktops on very wide monitors. #FediTips #MastoTips #Mastodon #Interface #UI #Appearance

@pepperraccoon based on what I have heard a lot of artists have better engagement here, so I hope it will be the same for you too. NFTs are the only thing that seems to be universally frowned upon... I mean for good reason :)
@belghast so far that’s what I’m finding!
@pepperraccoon from what I'm seeing, reposting is encouraged, as well as frequent self promotion!
