I am not going to call these things "toots," come the fuck on
@Emilynussbaum It's like they're trynna cap this thing in the foot before it even takes off
@Emilynussbaum I remember feeling like a total ass the first time I referred to a post on that other site as a "tweet."
@Emilynussbaum counterpoint: all names for posts in every social media platform should be a synonym for a fart
@Emilynussbaum and/or you could pronounce "toots" with a short "u" sound, like you're being sexist toward them in an old-timey movie
@poniewozik Heh, I did consider simply calling the posts “farts“ and cutting out the middleman
@Emilynussbaum I call them "posts" and no one can stop me.
@Emilynussbaum This place is open source and unbossed, so I'm going to call them whatever I want. For now--posts.
@Emilynussbaum @JamesGleick I was going to call them desperate shrieks echoing into the existential void, but I kept getting hung up on the proper spelling of shriek. #ActuallyUnusable
@Gtmlosangeles @Emilynussbaum @JamesGleick I definitely like "shrieks" much more than "toots"!
@Emilynussbaum way too late to try to rename them. Type it over and over to speed up normalization. Toot toot toot toot toot toot toot.
@Emilynussbaum This made a laughably big difference to me: the iOS app Metatext lets you change "toot" to "post" in the preferences.
@RadioSilence THIS WOULD HELP
@Emilynussbaum @RadioSilence I mostly see them referred to as “posts” here anyway.

@Emilynussbaum @RadioSilence

"Posts" has replaced "toots" in the official specs, from what I can tell:
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/main/CHANGELOG.md#unreleased

I don't see it saying "toot" anywhere on the web version in the browser.
Apps have gotta catch up.
