I am really curious how @briannosek's solution to the collective action problem will work out:

I am 100% in. My #NovemberMigration pledge:

1. Post new content only on #Mastodon (provide links on Tw)
2. No new content on Tw (except links to (1))
3. No retweet/reply to any content on Tw other than content related to #TwitterMigration

Like a big social psych experiment in the wild ...

Mastodon friends, I wrote a thread on Twitter that asks for commitments to three behaviors to maximize the chances for a successful transition of the community discussion to this platform. Please have a look and retweet it if you are willing to commit to the behaviors for November: https://twitter.com/BrianNosek/status/1587078444252274688

@nicebread @briannosek no easy and not sure it will win but indeed à realistic approach.

@nicebread @briannosek

Sounds like a pretty good starting point. I'm a little concerned about posting links on Twitter, though, particularly if you don't have an automated way of doing it. My experience is that the best way to get off of the big platforms (Twitter and Facebook) is to *never* log on.

(Haven't clicked through on the link, just read your sum-up.)

@nicebread @briannosek

The way I broke my Twitter addiction was by using a #BirdsiteLIVE instance (https://github.com/NicolasConstant/BirdsiteLive) to follow the handful of Twitter accounts that I really didn't want to lose track of. This worked beautifully because suddenly I had a chronological feed of the content, which is what I'd always wanted on Twitter.

@nicebread

Initially I'd planned to log onto Twitter when I wanted to reply to posts, but I eventually realized I didn't even really want to. When I see an interesting relayed tweet by someone I know personally, I sometimes respond over email, or some other platform.

@nicebread The Open Science Feed joins the collective action. We will not post on Twitter in November.

@briannosek

@nicebread @briannosek don't think of this will be visible in any report or statistics. Since tweets on twitter will still happen, it is still positive for Twitter. And answers/discussions won't necessarily move to fediverse. I don't think that this is an approach that has any effect. It is still traffic on twitter.

Only effect that would count would be a) delete Twitter account and b) post only on fediverse (or wherever).

@kjoo @briannosek

Posting only on Fediverse is part of the plan: if anything, we only provide links to the posts on Mastodon, as a signal to the remainers that "something is going on over there", and the Fediverse is not a deserted place.

@nicebread @briannosek I'd love to read that proposal, but I haven't been able to reach nerdculture.de for a while.

“Everyone moving from twitter to mastodon is very likely to fail because it is a collective action problem, benefits depend on others actions. Here's how it can succeed. It will require your commitment for 1 month to do a few things. Read and retweet if you commit to do them.”
