Going to be trying to put some lovely #gamedev marketing tips on Mastodon, in a bid to entice people to join

So here's some to begin: A discount tips thread!

You should be making sure to discount your #games as often as you can -- you'll always sell better during that period, so there's no real reason not to smash them out all the time

On #steam: Don't go crazy with deep discounts, dip gradually over time. The store is ranked by revenue, so deep discounting will not help you. Use Visibility Rounds and tiny updates to bump the sales a little each time

On #nintendoswitch: Go a bit deeper with discounts, as the store is ranked by units sold. You can do often + long discounts on Switch, so just go crazy with them

On #Xbox /PS: You can only do "official" discounts, so make sure you're on the email threads that allow you to opt in

If you get the opportunity to do bundles, don't be scared to be part of them -- as crazy as it sounds, we usually see our base sales *increase* after we've done a bundle

Suspect the idea is that being in a bundle means having loads of new players for your game, which increases the word of mouth to players who don't own the bundle

When a bundle offers you $Xk to be part, don't say yes - ask for more! They're always given a range they can say yes to. So add another $20k on, and see what they say

That's your lot for today -- let me know if there are any #gamedev topics you'd be interested in hearing about!
@mikerose you know if me you and @stutsies all start using #gamedev we can probably get it trending haha
@NeonIain @mikerose @stutsies it totally should be trending, and it's even nicer because people can follow hashtags (which means all toots tagged with it will appear in their timelines without having to follow individual people)
@lashman @NeonIain @mikerose if only moving servers wasn’t such a hassle..

@stutsies @NeonIain @mikerose it's not too bad, i just wish your posts moved with you, not just follows and followers

but at least they're still working on that bit, so it might happen eventually
