Tip 1️⃣
If you have a trusted supervisor or someone else who knows your writing, the academic market & has the experience themselves, speak to them first (in my case, it was the other way round: my supervisors were putting together a book

Tip 2️⃣
Think of your audience 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦👨‍👨‍👧‍👦👨‍👨‍👧‍👧 & reflect it in the 📖 proposal. It’s very different, ideally as wide as possible. That means adjusting the language used, avoiding jargon making it accessible.

Choose a catchy, clear & descriptive provisional title (e.g., mine was Queer Roma & has stayed & been published as such. People like the questions it raises). This can ensure

@phdlife that your book is easily found by potential readers using key🔑 word searches on book databases.

Tip 4️⃣
Think of the structure (NB. it may be VERY different‼️ you may have to drop some existing chapters & write entirely new ones). I wrote two new chapters & rewrote each
Give each chapter a title, provide an outline. Be clear how long each chapter is (& the whole book).

Use linking language 🖇 to ensure coherence & streaming the argument to avoid repetition.

Provide a book summary, rationale & aims.
Provide a synopsis.
Remember to expand on & update your conclusions‼️
Several years pass & many things happen between defending your thesis & publishing the book. It took me 34 months (2017-2021), including the 1.5 years I spent writing the book. Bear that in mind in your proposal.
