hello fediverse! who are you? what brings you here?
@sarahjamielewis Making sure to have redundant connections to people who post interesting things, in case Twitter drives them away. And sharing cat pictures.
@sarahjamielewis I run a small CookShop in the UK but used to be an IT support manager in the 80-90's. I've followed you a long time on Twitter and not sure why or how you've popped up in my feed here!

@sarahjamielewis Hello! Privacy loving furry who didn't like where Birdsite was heading a while back so joined this space.

Glad to see you on here! Hopefully with more people joining the fedivere we can work together to address its shortfalls where possible

@sarahjamielewis - I was told there would be free cheese here… no? Oh. Well, that’s why I came.

@sarahjamielewis Oh, hi!

I’m mostly doing security research lately, publishing under https://palant.info/. I’ve been focusing on browser extensions but two months ago I fell down a rabbit hole and I’m still busy reverse engineering binary applications. I can usually only publish my research with a delay of 90 days, so this fancy stuff can be expected to be out in January.

As to why I’m here: desperation for most part. I’ve been using Mastodon and Twitter in parallel for a while, but the latter is now dead for me. Mastodon isn’t really a replacement, but I’ll be spending more time here anyway.

@sarahjamielewis I originally started using Friendica when I lived in China and wanted to access both Facebook and RSS feeds. Friendica at that time federated with Facebook, Twitter, RSS and various others. My original ambition was to write enough plugins to make it easy for Chinese people to see uncensored content from outside the firewall. I didn't achieve what I wanted, but I still use Friendica as my RSS feed reader.
@sarahjamielewis hullo, I'm a sweng on Vancouver Island. Used to go to ORG meetings and never really dropped the "it would be nice if this wasn't owned by one person" mentality...
