I'm not generally upset that I'm not out in public

it's fine for me to wear jeans & a t-shirt, just like it's fine for anyone else

but some days I look at myself, like today, and realize I dressed myself like a default character creator output

like a newly-generated sim

like the most boring straight guy

plain black t-shirt
plain jeans
boring underwear
boring socks
generic plain old person sneakers

and I think less of myself for it

@hexwren buy programmer socks today comrade

@stella my thighs are too thick for most long socks

also i have fancier socks in my dresser, i just ended up not wearing them to work today

@hexwren get big fuzzy boots and cat ears and crop tops

go to sock dreams for plus size thigh highs

@stella

i appreciate the effort but, like, these are not reasonable solutions for my situation and body

it is like a billion degrees where i live, always

also, no, nobody should see my body in revealing clothing

also also, i am at work where I am very much not out beyond a they/them pin and constantly asking people to not call me "sir"

@stella also my main point isn't that my outfit today isn't femme enough, it's that it's fucking boring

@hexwren I am out in public and still have the default character creator output. Clothes are expensive and the default outfit is comfy.

But if you don't think it's comfy, maybe look around for something that is? Doesn't have to be super obvious for you to know about it and find comfort in it.

@leah i do have a few nice turns here and there and get more as i go, but really my biggest enemy is the three seconds (metaphorical, not literal) i spend in my (literal, not metaphorical) closet between waking up and going to work and not putting any thought into the outfit beyond "does it cover all the parts"

that and owning something like fifteen identical black t-shirts

and any number of non-identical black t-shirts

etc

it's partly the situation, yes, but it's far more the fight against convenience
