Just found out Fiona is the name of a cyclone. Amused because it's also the name of one of my main characters in a story I've been writing for a while.
@modulux I read a thread on Twitter a few months ago explaining how Fiona is actually a really recent made-up name. It was created by a poet as his female alter ego. I'll try to look it up.
Josie Giles on Twitter

“It's time to tell you a story about the origin of the name "Fiona". A good old Scottish name, you might think. And it is, in a way, a name very representative of Scottish culture and literature. But not in the way you might think...”

@modulux TLDR: the name "Fiona" was invented by James Macpherson (18thC), and first used properly in the 19th when William Sharp pretended to be a female author, poet and folklorist "Fiona Macleod".

@retazomag Huh, that's pretty fascinating.

The thread says it may not quite be the first, but even so, it is very interesting. My Fiona is supposed to be from an Irish background, but it's likely there's some link.

Reminds me of how Breogán is a creation from Scottish poetry but now a myth in Galicia too.

@modulux Is this character also destructive?
@borrisinabox Haha, depends on your perspective. She's a very assertive woman. So you could say she stir things.
