What are your favorite 8-bit console games that are not RPGs or shooters?

@kelbot
Pitfall (2600)
Star Raiders (tho Atari 8-bit is so much better than 2600 port)
Pick-Axe Pete (Odyssey2)
Super Mario Bros (NES)
Adventure (2600)

Shmups anyway:
Yar's Revenge (2600)
Fantasy Zone (SMS)
Zaxxon (SMS)

@kelbot MULE
Bubble Bobble
HERO
ENDURO
and a surprising array of sports games.

I've included #MSX games, even though technically I'd not call it a console, rather than a #homecomputer. I have a long playlist of MSX gameplay videos that might also be interesting to browse through.

@FiXato I hadn't heard of City Connection before but it sounds like my kind of game :-).
@kelbot it also has an arcade and a NES version. Looking at the Wikipedia article for City Connection it seems that the MSX is lacking several stages. Maybe I should try the original arcade version one of these days. :)

@FiXato The MSX recommendations are welcome. I've probably played more homebrew msx games than official ones but I'm sure there are plenty of good official titles I should try out.
@kelbot the MSX also has plenty of good shmups and RPGs by Konami, Microcabin, Compile, T&E Soft, Falcom, Enix, Square, KOEI, Origin Systems and the likes, but since you explicitly asked for games that did not fit those genres, I left them out. :)
@FiXato Yeah, I don't have anything against those genres I just am usually not in the mood for them. RPGs I never finish because I take too long of break and forget what I'm even doing when I start playing again. Shmups I never finish because I don't spend the time to get good enough to get very far X-).

@kelbot
oh, I rarely finish shmups either, and when I do it's usually with heavy use of reverse replay to undo mistakes, and replay savestates to continue where I left off when I need to take a break. Fortunately #openMSX supports both, and it's how I've recorded most of my gameplay videos. ;)

If one of your kids, or your SO, would like to try a co-op #SHMUP, I can highly recommend the co-op mode of #Salamander for the #MSX. :)
