I thought the whole #fedi thing would be more fun, servers and instances like an archipelago, with a spread of island bobra and cultures. Different e ologies developing, #galapagos style.

In the end it’s just names next to nicks. Some sound interesting but thats it.

@alek No, I don't think so. Servers make a difference for making your account, not for your day to day use. The whole point is that you just use it to follow whoever you want without the technical details being in your way except as names next to nicks.
@Gargron The choice of a server does make a lot of difference for day to day Mastodon experience. It influences the effective (not theoretical) circle of people you are among. Of course, one can follow whomever one wants but my experience is that the choice of a server determines a lot. I'm not a power user. Your experience may be different, of course. @alek
