I thought the whole #fedi thing would be more fun, servers and instances like an archipelago, with a spread of island bobra and cultures. Different e ologies developing, #galapagos style.

In the end it’s just names next to nicks. Some sound interesting but thats it.

Am I missing something, dear #fediverse?

@alek So far I've found it difficult to wade through it. I realize it's not meant to be as much a user-friendly one-stop-shop experience as Twitter, but so far I've not found an instance that seems like I could call it home yet and I'm still just kind of overwhelmed.

Still, I'm no less motivated to get away from the standard conglom-o social media. Something's gotta give sooner or later, I think, or hope.

@LeoKirke I share the sentiment and motivation!

and regarding the instances, that's my question, are they really offering different experiences?

or are they just a technical, almost bureaucractic aspect of the #fediverse: in order to be here, you need to pick a server.

I'm hoping it's the former, but feels for now like it's the latter.
