Will you two post a thought of the day and tag it with the hashtag? 🙏

@thebiologist1117 @frankie
Now I gotta come up with a thought..... *scratches head*
@futureisfoss *waits with anticipation* ☺️
@thebiologist1117
*still scratching head*
*gets a little nervous* 😬
@futureisfoss Let's see... um...
@futureisfoss What's the last thing you were thinking about a lot?
@thebiologist1117 I just finished watching the last episode of that 911 podcast you recommended me, lol. And it was very funny 😄
@futureisfoss Oh yeah, that one is excellent!
@futureisfoss The Operator and Luna play off of each other so well, I always like to hear what they think of stuff.
@thebiologist1117 They first talked about the war and all which had nothing to do with the call, and he kept teasing the other guy for it, haha 😄
@futureisfoss They have other podcasts, too, like Dark Topic: https://www.1159media.com/dark-topic

@thebiologist1117 Em, you gave me a list of podcasts in our matrix DM, and I haven't even listen to them yet, lol 😂
@futureisfoss Well, even more to warm your earballs with!
@thebiologist1117 I like podcasts because it means I can rest my eyeballs 😇

@thebiologist1117 There you go Em, that's a thought!

#ThoughtOfTheDay

@futureisfoss Wonderful! 💭🌞🙌

@thebiologist1117 Yes I like educational ones, thanks Em 🥰
@futureisfoss Trade ruins everything because... things are made, even if they don't need to be, and their quality is usually a lot worse because of it. My stepfather told me that entire cities are built on landfills of garbage sometimes. #TradeRuinsEverything

@thebiologist1117 Yes Em, things are made even if we don't need them, simply for trading them. And if we make good quality lasting products then you can't trade much with it, this is where planned obsolescence comes from. And in order to make these useless goods we also make people work, and in a trade based society everyone is forced to work in order so survive, and it doesn't matter if what they're doing is useful or not.

@futureisfoss #Rokosun, did you know that there is more garbage in one city than all of our messages combined?
@futureisfoss I don't think we even know what to do with the garbage... the same way we don't know what to do about climate change...
@futureisfoss So... essentially we're just hoping for the best, right? 🥸
@futureisfoss What'll we do when most of our planet is garbage, like in #WALLE?
@futureisfoss In that movie, most of the planet, I think, turned into desert, and there were daily, massive dust storms.
@futureisfoss That city, in that picture, that's a desert. It didn't used to be.
@futureisfoss No one was left. They had all either died or gone into space, and these corporations... They invented a product that would "clean up earth" while people were away, and those were the WALL-E robots... so for hundreds of years, these WALL-E robots would stack cubes of garbage, and make them into towers. It didn't actually do anything, of course... the garbage was still there... it was just "neatened" a little bit. #Apocalypse
@futureisfoss I 🤍 my threads... It makes me feel like I'm building something, like those WALL-E robots.
@futureisfoss And... the WALL-E robots pretty much failed... There were thousands of them, broken and destroyed everywhere, and even though they were supposed to clean up the garbage, they became garbage themselves.
@futureisfoss And what could they do with it? Garbage take up space, and the planet was out of space, so all they could really do is shuffle it around a bit.
@futureisfoss That's how bad it was in the movie.
@futureisfoss Do you have all your podcasts in a list? Maybe you could post it so we can #copy it?
@futureisfoss And then maybe I could throw it on my website so we could... look at it and decide how it should be presented or something... 👀
@futureisfoss Perhaps we should try to answer the question "Why should people watch this podcast...?"
Sooooo, what do you think a "list of podcasts" needs to have? I think... it needs to have the podcasts on there, they should be arranged alphabetically (so that none appear "better" than the others), and there should be a "personal reflection" to go along with the podcast. I also think the cover art of the podcast should be on there, as well as some other miscellaneous details like how long the podcast has been going, how many episodes there are, and what each episode's average length is.
Also, what the podcast is about should be on there... so people can have an idea of if they want to watch the podcast or not.
I guess the idea here is... if the list of podcasts has all the things it needs, it should be "done."
@thebiologist1117 I think we only need a link to the main podcast website, and their RSS feed (very important!), and maybe a little description about what the podcast is about or just mention its genre. Any more info can be found on the links we provide.
I was gonna say something... hm... forgot what it was...
@thebiologist1117 Don't worry Em, it happens to me too
Mkay, so... Another reason I like long threads is... if you post, then reply to yourself, it shows up in everyone's home timelines... and if you do that 5, 10 times in a row, it can be annoying... But if you reply to someone else, the post gets dropped from people's home timelines and stays in the thread, so it's neater. That doesn't work on instances that include replies in the home timeline, obviously.
It also gets added to the replies section on your profile instead of the posts section, so the "start" of threads gets added to your posts, and all of the replies get added to your replies... so it's neater there, too.
Anyway, if you're constantly starting new threads, it's hard to get someone to reply to you so you can keep talking... But if you stay on old threads, you can talk as long as you want without spamming, since it's always a reply to someone else.
I just had an idea... What if we used a hashtag for our "group" that we all check? Then we could avoid always mentioning each other, and we could just know to check the #z hashtag for group posts, for example?
Does that make sense? Using a single hashtag instead of lots of mentions? It would also be easier to avoid hellthreads, then, too.

@futureisfoss @frankie @catswhocode
Oh my God, I'm genius! I really like that idea. 💡
Also, when your posts are replies to other people and they get "dropped" from the home timelines, you can choose to reblog them to bring them back to the posts section of your profile... So you get a lot more fine-grained control over which posts show up in the posts section of your profile.
@catswhocode Cats Who Code, do you know? 👀
Find more "topic" accounts. #Reminder
Oh, did I do my thought of the day? I don't think I did... Be the hero who steps up and does more than what they're expected to. #ThoughtOfTheDay
@thebiologist1117 I just wanted to point something out here. If you reply to your own posts then it'll show up on the mastodon timelines of your followers, and if you reply to someone else's post then it wont.... But.... If someone follows both you and the person you replied to then it'll show up in their timelines. So if someone follows me and you then all of our conversations will show up on their timeline.
@futureisfoss I didn't know that... If someone's following both of us, then my public replies to you will still show up in their home timeline?
@thebiologist1117 Yes I believe it would show up in their timeline if they follow both of us. And also Friendica users see everything, if you reply to a random post by a random user it'll show up in the timeline of a Friendica user if they follow you, but in Friendica the original post appears in the timeline with a few commands visible below it (including your comment).
@thebiologist1117 I wonder how follower-only posts work, because when we talked about that Ed sheeran song before, people who follow me but not you can only see my side of the conversation and vice vera, that'd be pretty funny, lol 😂
