Open call for obsolete sounds! This project is really fascinating. They're requesting recordings of sounds from our environment, old tech, etc. that are no longer commonplace and then those will be reimagined by sound artists "to draw attention to the world’s disappearing soundscapes." https://citiesandmemory.com/2022/05/open-call-your-field-recordings-of-obsolete-sounds-wanted/

I feel like y'all'd love this
@Cyborgneticz I wish I had old recordings! I'll be interested to see the end results though.
@Laser that's how I feel - I don't have any old collections, but I'm really excited for this.
@jc this reminds me of old SFX CDs i used to loan from the library in my hometown. super cool!
@jc This feels like the sort of thing that should default to using a CC license, but instead seems to just want people to license for this specific use. I wonder what happens long-term.
@samwilson Good point! It does seem like it would be a good CC licence use case particularly with the way they have the remix part of the project working. I wonder why they have not gone that path. Thinking of asking them since I was considering participating. If I do, I'll post the response.

@jc
If you like sounds the BBC's sound mixer is good. I've gone straight for the geese of course.

@jc do you know of any other similar efforts (obsolete sounds in particular)?
@jc Ooh! I was just lamenting earlier today that while you can find pictures of old style library cards and the "card charging machines" that used the cards and a thumbwheel set date to eat a chunk out of the card from the pocket of a book and stamp the patron number and due date on the next line, I could not find video of one operating or a recording of the delicious kerchunking noise it makes...
