Somebody gave Mastodon's official iOS app a 1-star review on the App Store because "there are too many Taiwan independence" [sic, translation]. That's a first! Also, Taiwan is a country.
@Gargron Sooner or later any domain that contains "mastodon" or looks masto-ish will be blocked by china. Theoretically, a decentralized network cannot be blocked, but realistically, there are only limited number of servers running. As for now, mastodon.social and several major chinese-speaking servers are already blocked. Any publicity of fediverse in china, positive or not, will only make the complete block happen sooner.

@Gargron @sapoverde I wasn’t aware that mastodon.social was already blocked by the great firewall. At least mastodon.online[^1] and many other instances are still allowed through.

If an instance gets blocked and the admin moves it to a new domain, will all other instances in the federation be made aware of this domain change? Would it be transparent to users, if this is possible at all?
