I've only lived in three states, but so far Baltimore would be a good place to settle down in.
Close to DC. Good abortion laws. Trains and airports to go down South. Not crazy expensive.
Distinct culture (very important).
It's very Anglo, and I miss the deep South so much but there's a lot of decent jobs here, affordable housing, n good laws.

I just visited family up on the n side of town, and was reminded of how much weird interesting stuff that town has
at a time when a lot of cities have become generic and uninteresting, parts of baltimore aren't
@omniadisce I like it, cause moved from Louisiana all my family's there. Grew up Georgia lived in Atlanta, so I can't stand...plenty of cities.
I'm still homesick, but Baltimore has enough uniqueness of its own that it isn't giving up, for me to feel good here.
I just need to make friends who aren't from work now.

how did you like atlanta? I dreaded going there for the longest time because my family there used to live way out in the suburbs
but I went back for a conf a few years ago and stayed with a cousin in reynoldstown, and the city seemed way more humane than it used to to me
