To #favourite posts from other #instances is currently a bit annoying.

I don't know what technical limitation exists that can't be transparently solved without that little window, but I hope this is being worked on.

These are the kind of tiny usability jarrings that can push people out of a platform.

@Ailantd yeah, this is annoying me a bit too
@roh @Ailantd Where are you favoriting it from? If you're viewing it from the other instance's website, you get the pop-up for interactions, but if it's viewed from this instance you can just hit the button. You can paste the link to a post into the search bar on .art if you're not seeing it from our own instance.

@TapiocaPearl @Ailantd

the problem isn't not being able to fav, i can do it, the thing is just the pop-up thing that is just a bit of an encumbrance (and i think for the op too)

@roh @Ailantd Right, what I'm saying is that you only get the pop-up if you're not actually on mastodon.art when you hit the fav button. The issue is with posts from other instances so I'm wondering how y'all are viewing them, assuming it's not from the home or federated timeline where this issue shouldn't happen.
@TapiocaPearl @Ailantd when someone in my home timeline boosts someone else i click their profile, than it doesn't show all posts, so i click in the end of the timeline on "Older posts from other servers are not displayed.
Browse more on the original profile" to browse all their posts, then is sends me to their profile, where the pop-up occurs
@roh @Ailantd Gotcha, makes sense. I'm not sure if you'd find it easier to paste a link to that post into the .art search bar and fav it from there but that's what I usually do if I'm on the web interface.
@TapiocaPearl @Ailantd yeah, is a way, but i think even more awkward actionwise 😅
@roh I think the pop-up makes you log in though? On the web interface it's relatively quick and easy to ctrl+c > ctrl+v > fav the post, instead of having to go through all that. Of course it would be better if there were an even easier way, but I'll take it over the pop-up lol
@TapiocaPearl yeah, it is what i do. just saying it would be easier if it was just a click (i know why it isnt, but nonetheless)
@Ailantd this is due to CROS. Browsers don't allow local and remote data to be accessed from different host for security reasons (otherwise like a random site could access cookies and session data from let's say your Twitter). So it needs to prompt and jump to the target host page and then bridge these two. Super dumb...
@chengdulittlea no technical solution for it, then? I see that limiting the growth of the platform if not.
@Ailantd they probably need to have a better public or "subscribed instance" timeline design otherwise it's hard to discover stuff
@Ailantd Also, the favourite count of a post only shows the number of favourites within your instance. Very annoying.
@hannesthelegend There are many usability annoyances compared to twitter. They should focus into fast improvement to be able to keep people coming from there interested.
