I really liked playing Jenny LeClue, Detectivú; I replayed it twice. I also loved playing Costume Quest 2, and I was a huge fan of My Time at Portia.
@ReadySetIG like all of these questions, these ones are so hard, so I'm going to cheat a little and just talk about a developer that I really like.
Zachtronics' "optimization games" are so amazingly balanced and deep. They're masterful in the way they expand upon simple concepts, til suddenly you're "automatically" creating ridiculously complex systems.
Additionally, the emphasis on "multiple areas of optimization", without making it a necessary part of progression, is lovely. Build something fast, build something cheap, build something clever. Very rewarding.
@ReadySetIG my immediate thought was #SlayTheSpire, as someone who's into card games.
I also feel like I have to mention #StardewValley for the community that comes with it, as I really enjoy streaming it lately.
For something less known, I love how #NotTonight gave their own spin on #PapersPlease's mechanics and made the political commentary revolve around Brexit when that happened.
By no means an exhaustive list, just a spontaneous reply.
