"Verizon now owns Tumblr, so accounts using competing phone companies' email will be locked out"

@Gargron i'm really glad i'm not the only one who's salty over this irrational bullshit

someone should make decentralized tumblr already

@typhlosion @Gargron honestly, it seems like the mastodon platform could be fairly easily expanded to have a microblogging feature. something where it's linked to your mastodon @username, but still a separate feed that federates the same way as toots and stuff
@typhlosion @cigazze i think semantically there is very little difference between mastodon and tumblr - both are microblogging platforms. You just need a different look for it to feel like tumblr
@Gargron @typhlosion is exisiting already. just came across a while ago. think it was based on d#iaspora.
@Gargron Looking at that list of domains, it looks more to me like they're finally sunsetting the AT&T-Yahoo deal where Yahoo hosted the email associated with AT&T ISP accounts like the DSL I used to have
@Gargron pacbell and prodigy still exist??!
@Gargron I thought, wow, that's a poor fake, it's not funny enough to really have some humor, and of course totally unbelieveable
then I checked for myself
oh
@Gargron Interesting timing, as Verizon abandoned providing email services under the verizon.net domain only last month, migrating those FIOS users who still wanted email hosting to AOL's servers.
@Gargron it is as every plattform company joined in a hidden marketing campaigne for the fediverse.
I think it was a clever move of Verizon. It will make more ppl switching. Just wonder how they are planing to finance this campaign in the long run.
@paulfree14 @Gargron is that even legal for them to do that?
@Gargron Time to make a federated Tumblr I guess...
