@jfa On another topic, are you involved in running cloudisland.nz? Looks like a fantastic initiative. I'd love to know more about how it's run and how it was set up. Great to see it's hosted on the Catalyst Cloud.
@strypey No, it's all @aurynn's hard work. I jumped at the chance to support it. It's really neat to know I have a social media outlet that I believe in. I still have to be on Pukamata because of family and community groups, but I hope in the future there will be other alternatives for that type of media too. :)
@jfa @strypey hello! 🙂 👋🏻

Kia ora @aurynn Good to see cloudisland is hosted on the Catalyst Cloud. Great to see another instance based in Aotearoa. I'd love to know more about how it's run and how it was set up. I've aspired for a long time to run some member-owned services at disintermedia.net.nz

@strypey @aurynn @jfa Aurynn has written some stuff about CloudIsland here https://eiara.nz/posts/2020/Jul/02/openstack-specific-configuration-for-mastodon/ but a year on from then there are probably some updates...
OpenStack-Specific Configuration for Mastodon

Some specific settings for running Mastodon on an OpenStack-powered cloud

@bigblen @strypey @aurynn Yes I had to pinch myself when I read this. It was wonderful to be pointed to her work by an old friend and to be able to use the service.
@strypey About member owned services, I've also been hoping that @amolith might publish details about how https://nixnet.services/ is put together

@manton and I have been (very slowly) adding docs to our MediaWiki instance with the intent of allowing other people to follow along and replicate portions of our setup. The main page about our infrastructure is here and there are links to other pages towards the bottom
