#Blender’s new asset browser basically turns it into a video game, it’s pretty much The Sims at this point. Drag and drop and done – this will make things a lot easier for 2D artists who use it as a base for paintovers. Mind-blowing. 🤯

This is my most popular toot in a very long time.

Good, Blender deserves it! 🥰

@mooncube That now comes in blender or what addons is it?
Asset Browser Project Update — Blender Developers Blog

The Asset Browser will be a big milestone for Blender. A lot of effort goes into landing its first iteration for Blender 3.0. Here's a demo, some design background and a short introduction of the recently held the asset workshop.

@mooncube thanks, good

I knew they worked on it, but I didn't see it.

🤩

@mooncube It's cool to see Blender finally adding this! I know it's been planned for a while but it works even better than I expected
@mooncube Awesome! I really need to pick up #Blender again. I had a constructive last autumn where I got grips with the basics. Interesting to see how it could help benefit with digital painting: making some easy mockups.
@mooncube sometimes i wonder how licences count "drawing over this 3d asset" as being
@Runner @mooncube I know I'm reaaaally late lol but!
If it's cc-00 or open you don't have to credit, if it's cc-by you have to, if you bought it or it's in the program you're using (ex. csp) then no worries.
This applies to draw-over/paint-over, but no one can tell you shit if you're using it as a reference.
In this screenshot you can see the 3d model made with floorplanner and a request I've been working on, they're similar but not a drawn-over, which means I don't have to credit.
@mooncube are they from online "shop" or just instances of objects added by user to project?

@doktorno From how I understood it you create your own library of assets (or of course download meshes from the many sites that provide them).

@mooncube noooooo… now you make me want to import the SweetHome3D file I did into Blender and waste more nights 😅
@mmu_man Haha sounds like a good plan, let me know how it goes if you do! :D

@mooncube omg that looks so cool! ive always wanted to learn blender but havent really gotten around to it
@querimoniousqueer Nice! Not all of Blender is this accessible, but I think it will be a fantastic point of entry once it‘s out in stable and there‘s beginner guides! :D
@mooncube reminds me of arknights dormitory
@mooncube Wow! Looks like www.sweethome3d.com/ only better

@mooncube I think this addon will destroy the 3D Market even more.
I remember when unreal was introducing the market and people with 0 expierience started to create the wildest objects, just for a few cents (or even for free) while the 3D artists that were doing it for money were totally out.

All in all its a nice addon

@mooncube what this is insane! I need to get that installed asap
@mooncube I downloaded the 3.0 version but it seems like object placement doesn't work like the video? Or did I miss something. It says in the article it's a new thing but doesn't mention whether it has shipped yet

@epilys I haven’t played around with it yet myself so I can’t help you unfortunately, but it probably won’t be long until we see simple step-by-step tutorials/guides. Until then all I can suggest is to experiment or maybe ask in a Blender forum.

I think it has to do with the placement mode (using bounding boxes in the video).
