i'm the kind of people that can't tell the difference between flac and 32kbps mp3
@chj0 do you literally mean 32
@chj0 when i was like 14 i made a lot of deliberately shitty music that i would save at 8kbps because it would sound like it was coming out of the bottom of a bathtub
@chj0 i think stuff like differences between 320kbps vs flac is superfluous unless you are like extremely anal or an archivist. even with my 'quality matters' stuff like orchestral works i dont care that much, and with most music even 320kbps isnt really necessary for most people... most audiophile stuff seems totally psychosomatic to me but if you have a setup with theoretical-astrophysics-experiment level attention to precision at reducing the noise floor and custom-made in-ear monitors or whatever then youd be equipped to notice it better i guess
@[email protected] @[email protected] pretty much nobody can tell the difference between 320/V0 mp3 (or equivalent thresholds in other codecs) and lossless. but archivist isn't a special weird persons use case for lossless. ive got my library in several formats for various devices and hooked up to a streaming server which also does its own transcodes
@aliasless @chj0 @rats yeah I always save as flac to my webserver and it has a special route for downloading a tar file of a directory with all lossless audio encoded to opus
@aliasless @chj0 yeah i shouldn't have worded archivist like that, kind of maligning it. i think it is common enough and a good reason to have an as-accurate-as-possible original for various purposes
