Alright, I'm listening to Art Blakeyand the Jazz Messengers play Moanin' this fine #jazzsunday while I contemplate the direction of the rest of the day.

I really love the visual style of blue notes 50s album covers.

Tight cropped photos, prominent and Designed text, monochromatic with a wash of color.

I also love the way a lot of garage, punk, and pop punk bands mimicked elements of this trade dress/visual style for various individual releases. As if to say "take this one seriously"

@ajroach42 an excellent selection!

@djsundog I bought this copy (a 1959 original) at a used bookstore a decade ago, for less than a dollar.

Same trip also netted me a nice, complete, mono 'Pepper a copy of Time Out with a cover that is subtly different from any other I've ever seen, and a dozen other really excellent jazz and rock records. 15/$10.

It sticks in my mind as one of my single greatest record hauls in terms of sheer quality and value per dollar, and it was one of my first forays.

@ajroach42 yeah,that's a solid haul for sure!

@djsundog @ajroach42 I realized the other day that I don’t own a single Brubeck record, much less one with “take five” on it

Which is very sad, because I wanted to play it for my dog

@Ethancdavenport @ajroach42 every home should have a copy of time out. this will need to be rectified at the earliest opportunity.
@djsundog @Ethancdavenport five or six, just come get one
@djsundog @Ethancdavenport that message appears to have been lost to the aether, I'll leave it up to you to determine what it said
@ajroach42 @Ethancdavenport it persists in the toot-lab; my imagination remains untaxed.
@djsundog @Ethancdavenport a part of each of those messages has been lost, due to bad typing.
