I really love the visual style of blue notes 50s album covers.
Tight cropped photos, prominent and Designed text, monochromatic with a wash of color.
I also love the way a lot of garage, punk, and pop punk bands mimicked elements of this trade dress/visual style for various individual releases. As if to say "take this one seriously"
@djsundog I bought this copy (a 1959 original) at a used bookstore a decade ago, for less than a dollar.
Same trip also netted me a nice, complete, mono 'Pepper a copy of Time Out with a cover that is subtly different from any other I've ever seen, and a dozen other really excellent jazz and rock records. 15/$10.
It sticks in my mind as one of my single greatest record hauls in terms of sheer quality and value per dollar, and it was one of my first forays.
@djsundog @ajroach42 I realized the other day that I don’t own a single Brubeck record, much less one with “take five” on it
Which is very sad, because I wanted to play it for my dog
