For those of you who run #FreeBSD on laptops: I'm thinking about getting two 4K monitors. I have one HDMI and one mini-displayport on my Dell Precision 7550 with integrated Intel graphics. I'm looking for suggestions on which monitor(s) to get.
@lattera Do you want 4K for screen real estate or for Hi-DPI crispness?
What other requirements do you have? Color accuracy, variable refresh rate, color depth, VESA compatibility, additional inputs, outputs, USB hub, etc.?
@MacLemon For real estate. More space in my terminal. :)

@lattera Then you most likely want a display in the 105-140 dpi range. Meaning at a @1x usage we‘re talking about 37-43 inches for a 16:9 4K display. That‘s 100-120cm wide. Make sure you have enough space on your desk. Such a display has to basically sit flat on your desk to still be at a comfortable height at the top.

With that width you must turn your head to see each edge at a normal desk viewing distance.

At that size 2300mm radius curved is a good option.

@lattera Two of that size next to each other don‘t really make a lot of sense for a human body. You wouldn‘t be able to see anything at the far edges.

You may be better of with two 27" displays at 2560x1440, which is likely also a cheap option or some 34" (3440x1440), 38" (3880x1600) or 49" (5120x1440) ultra-wide.

Usable screen real estate without a bezel in the middle.

@lattera I personally use an LG 38WN95C-W on a VESA mount. https://www.lg.com/de/monitore/lg-38wn95c-w
Due to worldwide electronic parts shortage it has become very expensive though.

I‘m super happy with it but since you won‘t need VRR or extensive colour accuracy, you can get something more reasonably priced.
Get an IPS panel under any circumstance though.
