Today I do be thinking about monotropa uniflora @plants I was so chuffed to have found this plant because it was the first plant I set out to find on a hike relying on info from my botanical key. This plant is white and has no chlorophyll, and is considered a "mycoheterotroph". This means its host is a fungi that is mycorrhizal with trees: their energy source is the tree itself! A fascinating plant and one that is really important personally
@eileen @plants my favorite fact about monotropa is that itโ€™s in the same family as blueberries, heather and rhododendron!
@murmuration @plants we stan an acidic soil ๐Ÿ˜œ
@eileen @plants I've always wanted to see one of these in person. <3
@circe @plants the big key for finding them seems to be after a dry period followed by rain, it made all the difference after following up and finding sites I knew I didn't see any growing in before. I also found them more commonly under ferns in my area
