josefive replaced this 20W halogen light bulb with a 28W-equivalent LED light bulb. and what can i tell ya. its much worse, terrible color accuracy, and also dimmer

Alex@rtnVFRmedia Suffolk UK@jk the annoying thing is nowadays you have to buy lamps in the dark (especially online) and can't tell until you've plugged it in if you've got a good one (and there are plenty of dubious LED lamps around nowadays, at least they aren't as cursed as CFLs..)
@vfrmedia i was trying to get a replacement for one of those little G4 halogen capsules, for an old IKEA desk lamp (one of those 12V AC ones with the big transformer). it seems like all the LED replacements are designed for kitchen countertop lighting or something, where it'd look fine, but useless for being "my main lamp which I do electronics work under"
@jk you probably need a better "task lamp" for that (with higher grade CREE/VIshay LED chip) - various types of these are available (some for working on cars, other for bench work) - at least they are not too expensive..
(I'm at the age where I need about double the light for any kind of close up stuff, otherwise I simply cannot see it clearly)
@jk found this Philips G4 which looks promising - unfortunately only the slightly less bright 20W equivalent is in Screwfix rather than mail order if you were wanting to buy one from a physical place (Screwfix in Brighton seems close enough to get to without needing a car if you don't have one)
