You can subscribe to them, I do on my personal instance. I find it unnecessary to follow instances for the reason above.

Just search for vids within the search bar then click the result to subscribe. If that doesn't work go to their site copy the URL of a bid you like a search again, on your instance.

@mgrondin that seems unlikely, it's possible at this point they prefer being an island. It seems as though they're trying to make a sustainable, donation model with exclusive content through their site.

They may be trying to stop a bad actor from opening another instance, cloning all their content without users being aware of the original source. That's the cynical side of me talking:(

I've seen this already with a few peertube instances banding together amongst themselves but I can't for the life of me remember which they were. I think they were Japanese.

Anyway, I think most (semi-motivated) USERS of a Youtube alternative will resort to following sites, in their browser. Not having their own instances or maybe just having accounts on these sites to subscribe, comment etc without the possibility to upload.

Think freetube/newpipe etc.
