So like I kinda just wanna put this out there.

After reading everything that happened, I'm like feeling...icky

Friendly reminder that jews were not the only ones effected by the holocaust and like as a romani person, I don't really care if you're jewish because if I see you making a joke like that and then DEFENDING it that way, it's basically how I feel every single time romani people are conveniently omitted from an ashkenazi jewish retelling of the holocaust.

Im jewish too and I generally don't tell people I'm romani because of the fact that people are still attempting to eradicate us to this day.

If you wanna talk shit about zionists, fine. I don't like them either. But maybe steer clear of like specific language related to that.

I didn't think I was going to agree with the initial report but like...I sorta do.

Eugh. I'm still unpacking my own feelings on the rest but none of them are particularly positive.

Like I don't feel particularly good that the conversation yet again has presumably been centered around jews even though the specific 'joke' in question effects a LOT more than jews - which is probably why it should have never been made in the first place, jewish or not.

Idk. I guess I am thinking of moving now because I literally am seeing myself erased in real time yet again. Not one person has bothered to bring this up from what I've seen.

I'm exhausted of being drowned out by jewish voices on what really is our collective history in more ways than one and frankly, like, I don't even know the word for it but I'm just like sitting here shaking my head in silence and gritting my teeth which is generally how I feel in these situations.
That being said, I'm relatively new to this place, and like I don't really know the history of the mods but it kind of seems like it was a shortsighted lack of education - but I also feel that my perspective is one that doesn't get discussed much because idk, I perpetually feel like no one actually takes me seriously as a roma so like...idk.

Last bit I promise, but this is largely why I tend to shy away from leftist spaces even though I am a leftist myself.

Everyone is a leftist until those gypsies come up and then generally I get to be disappointed by like everyone.

@roshollow You're valid and I think you might like to talk to @Sapphicgiraffic. She seems like good people. Probably has a lot (everything) on her plate now, but... well, you know better than I do.

Thanks for sharing. I learned something.

@archer @Sapphicgiraffic No problem! I'm happy to educate where I can. It's really helpful for me finding my own voice as a romani person because I've long held it back out of fear of rejection.

@archer @Sapphicgiraffic

Also, I feel like this is one of those situations where no one is really like...wrong

sapphicgiraffic did something that under any other circumstances I feel would have been a pretty minor error a new mod would make which is not reach out to the person who submitted the report to tell them it had been dealt with. No big.

The person who reported ( I can't remember their handle, forgive me) also had genuine good faith concerns.

@archer thanks for tagging me in.

@roshollow first, thank you for sharing your perspective here.

shel reported a monads user, and after i dismissed the report, we asked that shel's partner ace, who was also a mod here, talk to them about it. idk what was said between those two.

it didn't occur me to reach out to dankwraith at the time because, well, i thought he'd just dismiss it as frivolous and move on.

however, there was more going on than i understood

@archer @roshollow in the end, dankwraith made a fair call, something that was right for him and for monads.

now i'm trying to take the feedback we got from this incident, reflect, and use it to make snouts a better place.

i hope we can all work together on this and pull through

@Sapphicgiraffic @archer honestly for what it's worth your readiness to take accountability pretty much changed my mind on leaving.

We all make mistakes and whereas I feel a lot of mods might get defensive and find any excuse to pass the buck you were pretty honest and open and I appreciate that.

All I ever personally want out of folks is a genuine willingness to learn and do better and you certainly seem to fit the bill.

@Sapphicgiraffic @archer @roshollow in my opinion it is not ok to get a personal relationship involved and have possible strain that. I would had a mod that is not biased because the other is in a relationship with the person who had a minor screw up. In moderation cases I’ve seen in the past, you do not get personal relationships involved.
@Sapphicgiraffic you should have a mod not related to the offending person as to not get personal feelings involved. Very bad decision imo if I had something to criticize and you wanted to reflect on. Just because it may seem convenient doesn’t mean it is.

@goongumpa this is a good point.

ace recused himself from our discussion about how to handle shel's infamous report, we just asked him to deliver the news iirc.

perhaps that wasn't for the best, either. something to consider

@Sapphicgiraffic yeah asking him to deliver the news is still a part of it, I’d heavily suggest not letting relationships and outside influence affect moderation of an entire server of people.
