Dare I ask my #Korean followers to #transcribe and perhaps #translate a couple of #bootleg #MSX #gameCartridge titles for me, so I can match them up with the right boxes and supply them to the #GenerationMSX website as alternative releases as part of my #softwarePreservation activities?

@FiXato looks interesting, do you know if there's any material for it online?

@ljwrites
#Wikipedia has an entry for #Zemina which has some more info about the brand, its company #SaehanTrading, a list of their games (though I have a hard time matching some of the stylised glyphs) and links to articles #MSX-based #gameConsole made by #Daewoo, the #Zemmix: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zemina

Supposedly the #Nemesis3 is a release officially licensed by #Konami, but since it lacks the SCC chip and comes in such a generic box and label, I kinda doubt that.

Zemina - Wikipedia

@ljwrites
(Especially since the #GenerationMSX article it references actually mentions it's uncertain whether it's a pirate or officially licensed release...
The box on that #GenMSX page also does not match the one I have, which makes me wonder if this is an earlier bootleg release, or if it's a bootleg of a bootleg 😂.

Gen-MSX also has a list of #Zemina releases:

Nemesis 3 - The Eve of Destruction (1989, MSX, MSX2, Konami) | Releases

@ljwrites
Once I actually have one of my #MSX #homeComputer systems set up, I can at least verify which games are *actually* on the ROMs in the carts, but they are currently in storage, and I can't easily set one of them up at the moment.

I'm primarily looking for the titles on the carts to be transcribed into actual Korean glyphs I can use to dig further online for more info. :)

I've tried #GoogleLens without much luck, probably because they are a bit too stylised.

@FiXato oooh, so it's the titles you need? Let's see...

First post, upper left: 사라만다 (saramanda, i.e. salamander) by 프로소프트
Upper right: cartridge also reading 사라만다
Lower left: 그라디우스 III (geuradius III, i.e. Gladius III) by 새한상사
Lower right: cartridge reading 그라디우스

Posting and continuing in case X craps out on me again...

@FiXato

Second post, upper left: 보스코니안 (Bosconian)
Upper right: "Always turn off the computer when you insert or remove the cartridge."
Lower left: 우샤 (usha, I guess it's a transliteration of wuxia?)
Lower right: The same warning about cartridge insertion/removal and the company name, 새한상사

@ljwrites
ah, #Bosconian! Yes, I do remember getting that game. Just didn't remember it being a Korean import. :)
Usha likely is a transliteration of #Uşas, of which I have the box here :)

@ljwrites
(and seeing OFF indeed made me guess it was a warning to only insert/eject carts when the computer was switched off 😂)
@FiXato Ah yes, that makes more sense as the cover didn't look very wuxia to me lol. And some things, like cartridge warnings, cross culture and language 😄

@ljwrites
these transcriptions/translations have been extremely helpful, thanks! 💜

I hate to impose, but would you mind doing the same for the third post? ☺️ https://mastodon.social/@FiXato/105001824197206255

The first one of it has a similar picture as the Gradius/Gladius one, but a different title on it.
The second has a mech and probably is Thexder, but with how they reused existing game images, I'm not quite sure. The back spine has the title I think, and I assume the blurb on the front is a subtitle or description?

@FiXato No problem, I didn't see it in my particular view although I inferred there was a third post!

Third post, upper left: 아리안 특공대 (Arian Teukgongdae, "Aryan Special Forces." Kind of an... unfortunate implication, especially with the burning blimp and its associations.)
Upper right: Cartridge warning and 새한상사 (Saehan Sangsa, "Saehan Commercial Company")
Lower left: 화려한 변신 로보트 게임 (Hwaryeohan Byeonsin Roboteu Game, "Dazzling Transformations Robot Game," which I think is a description and not a title--the title seems to be what's on the other side, see below) by 새한상사
Lower right: 덱스더 (Dekseudeo, apparently "Dexder") in black letters against a pink background printed or glued over what may be Japanese glyphs? Then cartridge warning.

@ljwrites
oof... that's indeed rather unfortunate... Makes me seriously wonder which game that actually is... I'm trying to remember which cart game I'm mentally missing from my #MSX collection... The description definitely doesn't ring any bells...

"Dexder" and the "transformations robot" description indeed confirms my suspicion that this is #GameArts's #Thexder, in which you play a #mech that can transform into a fighter jet. :)

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate it! :D

@FiXato Ah, "Thexder" makes sense, Korea doesn't have the th/Þ sound so transliterating it like d is close enough.

I kinda headcanon that the "Aryan Special Forces" stuff is actually a group of Indian and Iranian elite forces (so like, actual Aryans) sabotaging Nazis, hence the burning blimp. But yeah, that doesn't shed any light on the identity of the cartridge XD

@ljwrites
looking at the list of #Zemina titles on the earlier links Wikipedia page, based solely on your transcribed titled, the game "1942" would make most sense, but I have no recollection of having that on cart.
Based on the other titles they did, it might be #SuperBubbleBobble, which I know I have, but for which the original looking #Taito #BubbleBobble box actually says it's supposed to be #Japanese import instead

I guess I'll find out when I pop it in. :) ☺️

@FiXato always the best way to find out lol
